It’s been awhile since my last post. For shame, I know… This weekend I went to the ABA hair show in the next city over, and bought a cool new toy. (Video to come!)
At the hair show there was all the typical hair show fair – platform artists all over the place, everyone had the Backstreet-Boys-style head mics, tons of colorful goodies everywhere. I have to say though that I was very “meh” and unimpressed with the platform artists. Even the ones from companies like Paul Mitchell and Redken. I could see any one of my classmates up there, all they’d need was a more expensive suit/dress – but they weren’t doing anything mind blowingly original, or particularly expertly executed.
Except one! The main stage, separated from the other two halls the hair show occupied, had Saco (promoting an online education type thing… I think…) platform artists, and they were impressive. This one guy was my favorite, and I can’t remember his name for the life of me. So I’ll just call him Tim Roth. Because the entire time he was on stage I kept thinking “Boy this guy looks and sounds a lot like Tim Roth”
Might have been Richard Ashforth. Anyway, he got me way more pumped about hair styling than any of the other platform people at the show. And it wasn’t because he was a big “flash and tickle” showman – quite the opposite. The Saco show seemed a step up the ladder in terms of authenticity and classiness, and skill, compared to the rest of the stuff I saw on the weekend. It felt like this was the real high end stuff here at this stage, while all the rest of the hair show was retail and TV pitchmen. (Hairvangelists? I need to come up with a good nickname for those types!)
So my interest is piqued and I looked them up when I got home: http://www.sacohaironline.com/
I’m going to keep poking around their site to see what I can find out. If their platform show was indicative of the quality and class the rest of their endeavors exhibit, this might be the first pay-for-play hair site I actually sign up for.
