I got my tax refund a little while ago. $1300 straight into my bank account. Now, I’m decidedly poor – I own exactly enough clothes to get me through the week, I don’t own a car, and I eat the cheapest food you can think of. So getting $1300 that I wasn’t prepared for is quite a shock, and I’ve spent weeks agonizing over every possible thing I could do with it – New glasses (mine are broken), new clothes (my shirts are eventually going to just be a pile of loose threads), a car (Ha!), tools for hairdressing, paying off the debt that I’ve racked up going to hair school…

What did I do with it? Here’s what I did with it:

And I ended up stretching my finances more than a bit – I’ve got about $100 to live off of until my next paycheck. I’ve got no savings, I’m living paycheck to paycheck. I thought about what to use the money for more than most people think about anything. I knew what the smart thing to do was, but I also knew what the right thing to do was.

I had been trying to convince myself that I don’t want to be a photographer anymore, and that I should focus entirely on hair, but I now realize that I can’t do that because being a photographer is who I am, and I believe it will ultimately contribute as much to my success in life as being a hairstylist will. Some day, anyway. I just have to work extra hard to make myself better at both things.

Anyway, the hair show wasn’t bad. Tabatha Coffey spoke on the main stage and I like her, she’s cool beans! And I managed to walk around the hair show with a huge wad of cash in my pocket and not buy a single thing. Nothing. Go me! I took a few pictures, although it’s been awhile since I’ve had a camera in my hands. I want to get back into the swing of things with photography. Some day I want to be like the Canadian Randy Taylor! haha

And this is totally a crappy picture but I just really dig the green hair on the model, so, deal with it!

And here’s another pic of the kickass redhead who made all the other models look like they dropped out of posing school. Why? Because it’s my blog and I like redheads dammit.

It was done without a budget, we did the hair, a friend of the salon did the makeup, the clothes were supplied to a cool local shop. It was very strange being at a photo shoot and not being the photographer, but the photographers were this totally cool laid back Swedish couple. It was a lot of fun!

I had to make a twitter account (another one, my personal one has like 70% of my clientelle on it. Which is, you know, not cool. Gotta keep shop talk in the back room, if you know what I mean!), so I made a new Twitter account.
